Pauley's hosting dinner for beer lovers Tuesday
For wine lovers, pairings with meals, cheeses and desserts are the norm.
But these days, beer lovers can get in on the action as well, as specialty and microbrews offer a collection of options for the distinguished palate.
Pauley's Original Crepe Bar, which recently expanded its East Clayton Street location, is offering a four-course beer-pairing meal Tuesday to show off its new environs and give beer lovers a special treat.
The restaurant that specializes in crepes will feature a collection of beers from New Belgium Brewery to match with a special menu for the evening, which includes some regular items from Pauley's menu as well as a few specials.
"We didn't want to just have specials - things that people might like but then never be able to get again," said kitchen manager Jason Ellis, adding he and the staff still are putting the finishing touches on the evening's menu, taking the time to find just the right brews for each course.
Beer is a little more challenging than wine when it comes to pairing with foods - especially desserts, Ellis said, but added that selecting the menu and beer has been fun.
The evening kicks off with a collection of cheeses including brie with the Belgian Style Blond Ale from New Belgium's Lips of Faith series, and a cheddar paired with the Ranger IPA; there's another yet to be determined.
The second course includes a choice of salads, either a spin on the traditional Cobb salad with spinach, bacon and eggs in a roasted tomato and capers vinaigrette - pair
